Manure

I raise my glass to the statesmen who grin,
Then with neat footwork stately spin
Yet another web of steel and bile,
The better to manipulate those without guile
Who with trained minds and lame intellect,
Spit out the peanuts for them to select
The next government who then quickly learn
To ignore the electorate and democracy spurn,
As in this life, one thing's for sure,
The rich get the beef and the poor get manure.
